Did You Cut Your Hair Off?

Many new moms have a tendency to snip off their locks because they believe it will make their new found life easier – no messing with the blow-dryer or having to style it.

I find the opposite to be true — long hair can be easily tied back in a ponytail. What do you think?

I wnet through 3 chops. And now regret it. I had this long nice hair. I chopped and colored at about 7 months pregnant. Colored and chopped some more at about 9 months pregnant, then at about 3 months PP, chopped again. Now I'm just trying to grow it out again as it's always in a ponytail anyhow.

No. I was growing mine out with my first and kept growing, and with my second I had really long hair and cut if off mid-pregnancy.

I can't pull my hair back, though. It gives me migraines. So long hair isn't any easier for me, whether I have short or long hair, I have to actually style it if I want to be presentable.

Oh and this time I've done like 8 different lengths since I change my mind every time I go in to get it cut.

I kept mine long. I never understood cutting it off, I think that requires more work. With long hair, just wash and put in a ponytail or bun and it can still look kinda good.

Got bored while pregnant with my daughter and chopped all my hair off. It was kinda cute, but then I kept getting it cut and it ended up scary! I learned my lesson and left it long when I had my son.

I kept my hair long b/c I thought a ponytail would be easier, but miscalculated the effect pregnancy had on my hair. Long lustrous locks are not in the cards for me, now that my hormones have calmed down, so I'm getting it cut.

I agree - long hair is way less work. I just twist it up and clip it and that doesn't seem to bother me the way a ponytail can feel heavy and give you a headache.

Some people have great hair that looks just fine short and un"done", but I don't.

I find long so much easier. The only downside is that I have gotten really lazy about styling my hair so it is ALWAYS in a ponytail.

i went for a medium length so i can still pull it back, but if i also decide to blow-dry and style it it won't take me too long ...but i do miss my long locks and am growing out my hair!

I kept mine long. My ponytail is my bestfriend when I don't want to do anything.

My sister in law is the opposite. She actually chopped hers off as soon as she got married and keeps it cut to about an inch or so regularly now that she has a baby. She gels a part of it down on her forehead. She swears that it is easier. Problem is that it is not a stylish cut and it makes her look older. She is already 6 years older than her husband and her hair cut makes her look at least 10 years older than him.

I kept mine long and after my twin sons were born it was in a pony tail pretty much 24/7. Because of that, it became super dry and brittle at the ends and always had a weird perma-kink in it from the scrunchies i wore, so i ended cutting about 6 inches off when they were about a year old. It was still past my shoulders after the cut...but i guess there are downsides to just being able to pull it back in a ponytail.

After my daughter was born I cut about 6-8 inchs off my hair... it was still long enough to put in a ponytail but short enough that I didn't really need to brush it.

I chopped mine and then to make matter worse. I GOT A PERM. it was horrible. 7 years ago, and I am still dealing with the curl in my otherwise straight hair.

After my second daughter, i grew my hair out. No more chop offs for me.

My hair was really long during my 1st & 2nd trimester but during the 3rd, the day before my baby shower I got frustrated with tending to it and chopped it all off. At the time I loved my new bob but looking back I would have totally just put it up in a bun and call it a day. Next pregnancy I'm keeping my long locks.

With my first I chopped it off about the third trimester. How stupid was I? I had long beautiful hair and I haven't been able to grow it that long and keep it healthy at the same time since.

I told my husband this time to ban me from haircuts. I've gone blonde instead of getting a crazy chop this time.

Kept my hair long. It ends up in a ponytail a lot of the time but at least i have the option to wear it down and bring the sexy back when I feel like it!

I chopped mine pretty short, but I stopped coloring when I found out I was pregnant, so I had six inches of virgin hair followed by probably seven inches of hair that was orangey and dry from peroxide (hair color does not like my hair!). So I chopped off the previously colored stuff. The cut was weird for a while, but it was just a stepping stone to growing it out long again, so it was tolerable.

I'm not a mom but almost every mom I know has cut her hair short during pregnancy.

I kept my hair short for many, many years and it took way longer to style than it does now, and it's the longest it's ever been now. And I never, ever wear ponytails. Ever.

I unfortunately cut it really short thinking it would be easier and that was far from the truth. Plus add in the post-preggo face and it really wasn't working for me. Now 4.5 yrs later, I finally have long hair and a kickin' body from working my butt off. I finally got sick of looking like the frumpy mom.

I had long hair while I was pregnant & my hairdresser wasn't about to mess with it. After baby(s) I had 2 back to back I kept it long...until I got into a preppy phase with my clothes...my kids were 1 & 2. Then i cut it to a bob....it had nothing to do w/my kids but the minute it was gone, I majorly regretted it. Now it's long again & I am never going short again. I'm going to be an old lady with long hair. So I'll have it in a bun...at least it'll be long.

New mom's don't chop your hair. Get a cool stroller or some new jeans or something. Eye-wink

i cut my hair before both babies. i have really thik hair, and though i love it long (my preferred choice), it's easier to deal with short. i should mention that short for me is just above the shoulder, which i suppose is long for other moms. i'm still able to put mine in a ponytail. i let it grow in the two years between births, and by the end it was too much to handle--always getting in the way when i was leaning over to help my toddler. also, like others have mentioned, being in a ponytail or a bun all the time did no favors to my hair or myscalp. i look forward to the day when i can have my long hair and have the time to properly take care of it!

I'm with Greggy. I can't pull mine back either. It's so thick that it hurts like he!! after a half hour. I chopped it and I don't regret it for a second. Another reason I'm happy it's short? About 3 months after she was born I started shedding like a balding middle aged man. I was losing so much hair...I can't imagine what we would have been dealing with if it was long. Our drains and vacuum would have to be cleaned out daily. Yuck!

I cut my hair even on my first trimester. It's quite short but somehow I find it suits me better, and I don't need so much time to wash it or dry it.
