Fake Baby Trend in Britain

Who says the newborn you fawn over has to be real? This Jezebel post about the British trend of childless women spending a pretty penny for life-like dolls that they push around in prams and tend to as their own frightened me.

Especially the clips from the documentary about the "moms," called My Fake Baby. In addition to toting the extremely realistic bundles of joy, called Re-Borns, on errands, the women dress and rock them. They also bask in the attention the wee ones attract and don't have to worry about waking up in the middle of the night or changing soiled diapers.

That is beyond weird, and indicates some serious issues.

And the doll doesn't look like it's sleeping. It looks completely lifeless. That's awful.

Wow it is very sad. I feel really bad for these women. They are obviously missing something in their lives.

I simply do not understand why someone would buy a FAKE baby and tote it around as if it were real unless they're five years old. But it'd be better that they did this than have a child to use as an accessory.

That's really disturbing. It's one thing to buy a lifelike doll, but it's a whole other thing to have a fake baby that you treat like a real baby push around in a stroller. And others actually give the same attention as if it were a real baby! I suppose that may be from a distance, but this is creepy.

That is creepy. And if you follow the link to the men with their dolls, that's even worse. I'm disturbed now!

    I don't think it's healthy.

I watched the full doc and I found the grandmother showing the grandson on webcam the reborn she had made of him as an infant very disturbing. She was trying to convince him it was a real baby as well.

I really don't know what to say. I think I saw a special about men and their real doll girlfriends that came out of Britain as well. What's up with the Brits??

This is sick and wrong. These women need help. And could that baby be any uglier? It looks like an under-the-weather alien.

So sad to me. Like some others have said, these women must be feeling a huge void to do something like this. I guess it's better to do this than steal an actual baby like some stories on the news in recent years.
