Why Didn't Anybody Tell Me: Cry Baby

Funny man Jack Black recently said he's gone sentimental since becoming a dad. The comedian and father of two admitted to even crying at commercials. Ads do a number on lots of new parents, perhaps it's the adorable, chubby cheeked bald babies they have in them, or the angelic infants sleeping that make the tear ducts of moms and dads loosen. Additionally, there are those amazing moments we see flashing across our television screens like when Michael Phelps ran to his proud mother, Debbie, after he won yet another Olympic gold. Or the devastating ones, like the segment of Stand Up To Cancer that told the story of the mom who lost her four-year-old son to the disease. She was there for his first breath and his last. To see why parents relate, read more.

We watch moms struggling with their toddlers in the supermarket or picking wildflowers with their wee ones and see them as mirrors of ourselves. Becoming a parent heightens all the emotions that people have as children breathe new life into our own existence and with that comes a whole lot of belly laughs, frustration, sleepless nights and tears.

Tell me about it. Things I could handle without problems before having kids, I can't even think about now. I made the mistake of reading John Walsh's biography when my oldest son was about 8 months old. HUGE mistake. I still have nightmares from the things he describes in that book.

I was reading a book by Nora Roberts recently when it alluded to the main character losing an infant who was a few weeks old. I still haven't picked it up again, and won't be able to until my daughter is much older.

But by far the biggest emotional moment of tv/movie/book for me was watching Passion of the Christ, when Mary is watching Jesus carry the cross and it flashes back and forth between her memories of Him as a baby and what was happening to Him now. I was heaving with sobs in the theatre.

I cried at everything before and now it's just so much worse. I cry at EVERYTHING, and not just kid-related stuff. Just anything slightly mushy or emotional, although the kid or animal related things are definitely worse. Today already I've gotten overly emotional twice at stories on GMA. Oy. I never thought having a child would affect me so much, but it's true.

I've gotten really sensitive to the news. Anything having to do with bad things happening to kids or mother's kills me. I rarely read or listen to the news any longer as I can't take it. We watched the Stand up to Cancer and when they talked about the 4 year old I lost it. I'm losing it again just thinking about it. Sad
