Babysugar Diaries: Flaunt Your Bump in a Bikini

To bare the belly or not to bare it was my dilemma last week. On a trip down to San Diego, I packed a tankini, a one piece, and a bikini.

On the first beach day, I donned the tankini. After tugging down on it throughout the day, I was ready to toss it in the ocean. For fear of frightening other beach goers, I decided to slip on my one piece the following day. I assumed it would be the most comfortable and practical option, but it proved otherwise. My tummy stretched the boob line way below acceptable levels, and it made me look like a blob. Displeased, I quickly changed into my bikini. Although I looked much plumper, I actually felt more confident than I usually do in a two piece. With my baby-hatching belly on parade, I didn't worry about my typical insecurities.

Other beach moms complimented me on my bare belly, while I am sure others glared from beneath their shades. Either way, I was relieved to feel secure (both physically and mentally) in my sand suit. So here's what I say — if you've got a baby bump, flaunt it.

What's your take on bikinis during pregnancy?

I don't mind them. I think they are cute. I didn't wear one because I have a tattoo on my belly that gets more stares, but I love seeing the belly bumps.

    Oh I was almost the 1st rely : (

Anyways I think it's looks cute. When I gt pregnant I will proudly wear my bikini and I don't even wear one now. I think it's sexy and cute for the mom. Show it off and let the baby feel the sun : )

I didn't as I just get so big. Giant belly with huge boobs all flopping everywhere, it's fairly obscene. I put it on when I was pretty far along and my husband was really trying to encourage it but I just couldn't. I do think it's cute when I see other women do it though. Smiling

Generally, I think it doesn't matter. It's pretty obvious that you're pregnant!

It's probably the only time I'd wear a bikini if I could just find one with enough support in the top. Unfortunately that'll never happen, even specialty bikinis don't for me.

I love bare pregnant bellies most of the time.

I guess I'm the only one who doesn't like them. I don't like to see other people in them, and I have no intention of wearing one. I just look away at the beach.

For me it had nothing to do with "flaunting" my bump. It just felt horrific for my tummy to be clad in wet spandex...so much better in a bikini!

I wore one because I was more comfortable letting the belly hang out. I was too afraid that someone might mistake me for a beached whale instead of a pregnant lady if I didn't let it hang out.
